Shoulder Bursitis and Massage

Published on: March 2023

Shoulder bursitis is a common condition that occurs when the bursa, a small sac filled with fluid that helps reduce friction between bones, tendons, and muscles, becomes inflamed. This inflammation can be caused by repetitive motions, overuse, trauma, or infection. Shoulder bursitis typically causes pain, stiffness, and limited mobility in the affected shoulder.

Massage can be a helpful complementary therapy for shoulder bursitis. It can help to reduce pain and inflammation in the affected area, increase blood flow and circulation, and promote relaxation and stress relief.

During a massage session, a therapist may use a variety of techniques, such as Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, or trigger point therapy, depending on the severity and location of the inflammation. They may also use gentle stretching or range of motion exercises to help improve mobility and flexibility in the shoulder joint.
